Interactive tablets in Wunderland make the consequences of global warming accessible

At Miniatur Wunderland, our visitors can interactively experience the effects of climate change in various regions until 30 March.

Using interactive tablets and augmented reality, visitors can experience how well-known places in Wunderland change when temperatures rise by two or even five degrees.

The campaign was developed together with Deutsche Telekom: guests can use an app to experience the possible consequences of global warming. Suddenly Venice is under water, a “Medicane” hits Monaco or Neuschwanstein Castle is threatened by a forest fire.

Many people know that climate change is a major threat, but it is often difficult to visualise the effects. That's why we make them visible in Wunderland. Visitors can use a tablet to change the temperature themselves and observe what happens. This makes the threat of climate change directly tangible.

Our aim is to get people to think and act. There are still ways to limit global warming and prevent serious consequences. Climate researcher Prof. Dr Mojib Latif, who was a guest at Wunderland at the start of the campaign, also emphasises this: "The facts about the causes and consequences of global warming have been known for many years. However, knowledge alone does not seem to lead to action. For many people, the effects of global warming remain abstract. That's why we need to make the possible consequences tangible in the form of scenarios."
